Written by PHOTOBRUSHOP TEAM, 2009
Are you tired of just downloading and choosing the best PS Brushes on the internet? Well, photobrushop is the solution for that, because we will teach you on how to create your own PS brush. It’s very simple.
LIMITATIONS
Before we start, here are some limitations that we should be aware of in creating your own PS Brush.
- First, in creating your own PS Brush, you’re mostly working in levels of transparency using grayscale colors. Only black and white. Black is in solid and white is 100% transparent and also shades of gray that represents different levels of transparency.
- Second, the size must be at least a maximum of 2500px x 2500px. The bigger the image, the better the quality of brush that you are creating. Because, if the size is too small, the tendency of your brush will be blurred.
So, now that you already know the limitations, we can now start creating PS Brush.
STEP 1: PREPARING AND CHOOSING AN IMAGE
We will start this tutorial by using a simple anime character picture which is Naruto into a simple a brush.
First, open an image that you want to make a brush by using Photoshop CS3.
Step1
As you notice, the size of the image is only 660px x 495px and it’s too small for brush.
Step2
So, we need to resize the image by using the crop tool and to set both width and height by at least 2000px. Because it much better to create a brush with a perfect size.
Step3
On the image I choose to crop the center part of the image which is the face of Naruto.
Step4
So, here is the cropped image.
Step5
Because our main focus here is just the face of Naruto. What we’re going to do is to delete the background of the image using the MAGIC ERASER TOOL.
Step6
Just click on the background until it gets transparent. All you need here is more time and patience.
Step7
So, this is what your image will look like.
STEP 2: MAKE THE IMAGE GRAYSCALE
In making your own PS Brush, we all know that it is important that the color of your image is only grayscale or black and white. Like what we have stated above in the limitations and guidelines.
To make the image or brush grayscale, all you need to do are: First, on the menu bar go to IMAGE then select ADJUSTMENTS and choose BLACK & WHITE.
Step8
Then on the BLACK & WHITE window, you can adjust the color of the image, but its still grayscale. Then if you’re done in adjusting the colors then click OK.
Step9
So, this will look like your image.
